Neuropsychological Assessment and Rehabilitation

What does the assessment measure?

assessment

Vivamus Psychologists are able to provide detailed neuropsychological assessments. In this assessment key cognitive (thinking) skills such as memory, concentration, executive functioning (planning, reasoning), general intelligence, processing speeds, verbal comprehension and perceptual skills can be measured. The assessment can also provide a profile of an individual's areas of cognitive difficulties and strengths. The assessment procedure will usually involve a clinical interview and the administration of tests that explore specific areas of cognitive functioning.

A neuropsychological assessment can be useful when there are concerns that there may be difficulties in cognitive functioning in the context of the following areas:

  • Acquired Head Injury
  • Neurodegenerative Disorders (Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease)
  • Dementia
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Substance Misuse

From the assessment a thorough report can be written which would include the interpretation of the results and recommendations for further treatment. This can include a rehabilitation plan if appropriate, where psychological techniques that aid the improvement or management of cognitive difficulties can be outlined. Vivamus Psychologists can also provide psychological therapy and support for any adjustment difficulties following the assessment if needed.
