Melanie Shepherd is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. She qualified in 1989 and has over 25 years’ experience working with adults in the NHS. When at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, she led services for adults of working age and those over 65. She is now working clinically in private practice whilst continuing to offer supervision to NHS services.
Melanie has extensive experience of offering brief and longer-term individual therapy for a broad range of difficulties such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems and adjustment to traumatic life events. She is experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy and has specialised in Systemic Psychotherapy. Systemic Psychotherapists view difficulties that individuals face as linked to the contexts in which they occur, such as our relationships, work-places and families, and the therapy draws on people’s strengths and resources to enable them to make changes.
As a couple therapist and supervisor, Melanie has specialist expertise in working with couples where one partner is depressed. This way of working with depression is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Melanie is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. She is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and as a Systemic, Couple and Family Psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
